Steinert, director of manage ment services for the Greenville (S. C.) Hospital System, has been named a University assistant vice president, effec tive April 14. His area of responsibility will be bus iness and finance at the medical center. He will report both to Charles B. Huestis, Duke vice president for business and finance, and to Dr. Stuart M. Ses- soms, director of the hospital. Steinert worked from 1954-63 as con troller and assistant director at the Greenville General Hospital, one of the five institutions making up the Green ville Hospital System. He became dir ector of management services for the system in 1963. Prior to going to Greenville, Steinert worked in accounting and office man agement for hospitals and private in dustry in Gouverneur, N. Y., and New York City. Steinert studied engineering at Buck- nell Junior College and City College of New York and chemistry at Columbia. He served overseas with the 8th Air Force as a first lieutenant during World War II. A deacon and Sunday School teacher in the Presbyterian Church, Steinert is trustee and treasurer for church-oper ated Covenant College in Chattanooga, Tenn. Steinert currently is national presi dent of the Hospital Financial Manage ment Association, and has held national offices since 1963. A former state presi dent and fellow, he was awarded life membership in the association two years ago. Other professional activities have in cluded membership on numerous work ing parties and conferences of the Amer ican Hospital Association. He helped design an accounting manual for the Duke Endowment, was accounting edi tor of Southern Hospitals, a professional journal, and has served consultantships with the Social Security Administration. Steinert and his wife have two mar ried children and a daughter who is a high school senior. m MR. STEINERT Woodhall Takes Position As Temporary Chancellor Dr. Barnes Woodhall, assistant to the president of the university since Jan. 15, was named chancellor pro tern by Dr. Douglas M. Knight last month. The university's board of trustees voted at its March meeting to establish the position of chancellor and approved Dr. Woodhall's appointment pending the selection of a permanent appointee to the office. In the plan approved by the trustees, the president will continue to be the chief executive officer of the university, and, in accordance with the university's charter and by-laws, will have final authority and responsibility for imple menting policies of the university as established by the trustees. Responsibility and authority for in ternal operations of the university will be delegated to the chancellor, and the president will participate in such matters when they are referred to him by the chancellor. Dr. Knight said in his announcement of the trustee action that at an early date he will appoint a faculty-student- trustee search committee to recommend candidates to fill the office of chancellor on a permanent basis.
